The History of Casinos around the World
We all know a casino is a place or venue that accommodates all types of gambling activities. They are built either in either hotels or cruise ships. Most of the time, you can find them with restaurants, hotels, or shopping stores. There are casinos that also offer daily entertainment for their customers. These are normally; stand up comedy, concerts and even sporting events. Now, let us talk about Casino history, like when and where did the first casino open and other things that are connected to casinos as well.
Again, it is not known how gambling started. However, China recorded their very first official practice of gambling back in 2300 B.C. But then again, it is believed that gambling has been practiced in almost every place or society since then.
Casino history can be dated as early as the 19th century. It was then that the name “Casino or Casa” started to include other types of public buildings where gambling and other activities for pleasure and sports took place. A good example of this one is the Newport Casino in Rhode Island. Another good example of this one is the Villa Farnese and Villa Giulia of Italy.
However, you must take note that not every casinos before were meant for gaming only. A good example of this one is the Copenhagen Casino. It is actually a theater. This place is basically used for public gatherings or meetings during the time where Denmark was made as a constitutional monarchy after the 1848 Revolution. Not until 1937 it was known as a famous Danish theater.
While, Casino history in Hanko Finland, the Hanko Casino was considered as the town’s most eye-catching landmarks, again, this place though was never used for gambling. It was known as a Banquet hall that was frequented by Russian nobility in the late 1800’s. Now, this place is used as a restaurant.
Another noted piece of Casino history is the so called “Casino”, this is a famous landmark that overlooks the Avalon Harbor in the Island of Catalina. This again, has never been used for gambling, this is because by the time the Casino was built, gambling in California were outlawed.
In casino history, one of the very first one was called Casino di Venezia. This was established in 1638 in Venice Italy, this very same place is still in operation until this very day.
While in the United States, Casinos were born in Saloon bars. Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco and St. Louis, are considered as the cities that first created and influenced the introduction and use of Saloons.
Saloons gave the public and travellers the chance to gamble, drink, have a place to stay in, etc, back before gambling was totally outlawed in the 20th century or earlier date. But in 1931, gambling was legalized again in the state of Nevada and Las Vegas. Gambling was allowed in Atlantic City by New Jersey. Now, as we all know it, Atlantic City is the world’s second best and largest gambling area.
